Be Proud of Your Skills

Has anyone given you a compliment about something you did and you were like, “No, no. It was nothing.” or “Oh, it really wasn’t me. It was mostly so-and-so.”

Why do that to yourself? Why downplay all the time and effort you have put into the skills you have been developing? You are good! Accept it!

But John, won’t I sound self-centered? No. As long as you don’t only focus on yourself.

“…The more you see your own gifts clearly, the more you must pay attention to the gifts that others have…Empathy and gratitude will keep any narcissistic tendencies in check.”

If someone compliments you, just say, “Thank you.” or “I appreciate that.” They have acknowledged your skills and effort and you have acknowledged their compliment. It’s as simple as that.

You deserve credit for the time and effort you put into what you are doing - whether it be a hobby or a job.

Not only does this help you acknowledge yourself, but it allows you to grow more comfortable in your own abilities to continue doing what you are proud of. You are worth it!

And again, when you start noticing the abilities of others and start acknowledging them, you raise them up. You don’t stand above them, but instead you stand with them.

Be proud of your skills and yourself! You are an amazing person!
